(Precautionary steps to prepare your house for winter!)

Winter is coming, are you prepared for it?
Things to keep in mind during the fall season:

- Gutters
- Windows and Doors
- Humidifiers and Furnace
- Shelves and Storage
- Home Safety Devices

With the cold air moving in, be mindful of potential drafty areas, such as windows with faulty caulk or seals. In some cases a simple door sweep could make all the difference when it comes to keeping your house warm and efficient.

Look into replacing old air filters on humidifiers or furnaces that may be clogged and resulting in improper air circulation. When it comes to cleaning humidifier compartments try using vinegar, it is cheap and effective.

When it comes to winter accessories, things can become a little hectic. Try not to trip on the snowy boots and damp winter jacket. It may be just the time to install some hooks, shelves, or storage in your garage or mudroom to accommodate the clutter.

Remember to test home safety devices. Replace the old batteries in all smoke detectors and carbon monoxide devices and make sure they’re working properly.

Don't forget the gutters. Free flowing gutters divert watershed from your home's exterior walls, foundation, and basement. That is why it is so important to check for clogged gutter drops and gutter screens. Neglecting gutter maintenance can lead to rust, corrosion, and filthy residue. As the leaves fly this fall, have your gutters cleaned, then covered with preventative mesh guards to keep debris from collecting in problem areas.
